Arne Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's expected for concerns to be raised about his future after another convincing defeat against the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their 9th defeat in 12 games, representing the club's worst run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received plenty of support from the top,” the coach stated.
“It would be nice to turn it around and secure a win of course but when you're coaching a team and not doing well then it's typical that people question you.”
He added, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to expand on his conversations with the team officials, the head coach revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”
He added, “During our regular conversations we have I sense the belief. But I've not talked to them after this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Issues and Squad Response
The manager highlighted known failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” Jones remarked.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a period like this with performances this poor.”
He finished, “But we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And as long as that badge is gone, we'll continue to compete.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad back to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and why it's known as the best team in the planet.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
