Liverpool's Star Extends Regret to Liverpool Dressing Room, Says Curtis Jones
Curtis Jones has disclosed that the Egyptian forward said sorry to the team following the controversy from his public comments.
The Incident
Salah was left out from a vital match after criticising the club and suggesting his relationship with manager had broken down.
“Salah is an individual and he can say his own stuff,” Jones told Sky Sports. “His apology was clear and was like: ‘If I’ve affected anybody, please accept my apology.’”
The head coach has refused to reveal on whether he received a personal apology from the veteran striker.
Moving Forward
Jones insisted that the dressing room atmosphere stayed normal. “He was the exact same Mo, he was smiling and everybody was exactly the same with him,” he continued.
He also suggested that a teammate fighting for a place is preferable. “I get that there are certain ways you can go about things,” he said. “But if a lad’s fine to just be on the bench, then I think that’s concerning.”
On-Field Response
The team's performance have been impressive in the period after the interview fallout. He feels the forward's comments were not intended to destabilise the squad.
“When there’s been any sort of anger, it has consistently come from a desire to win,” he finished. “We’re past that now and we’re gelling well as a team, getting results and on a positive run.”
