Six Individuals Detained After €12M Heist on Precious Metals Facility in the French Republic

A team of six suspects carrying high-powered firearms employed explosives to breach the security of a precious metals processing plant located in Lyon, France, slightly injuring five employees during what appears to be the latest high-profile broad daylight robbery to hit the nation.

The audacious robbery took place on Thursday afternoon, with police forces quickly arresting the suspected perpetrators and retrieving the loot valued at approximately €12M (£10.5 million), according to officials.

Five employees of the precious metals facility received light wounds from the blast, and three employees were taken to a medical facility for assessment, according to regional authorities. A total of twenty-eight staff were at the location when the robbers attacked.

The suspects, thought to be experienced criminals, were taken into custody a brief time later in the neighboring community of the town of Vénissieux, according to investigative sources.

A woman involved involved in the heist was taken into custody as well, according to law enforcement.

“Six individuals who utilized explosives in an attack on a precious metals company in Lyon, France were apprehended red-handed,” the French interior minister declared on social media, lauding police for their “firmness, rapid response and command”.

Military-style weapons, pistols and explosive materials were recovered as well.

The raid happened as authorities on Thursday arrested five more suspects, among them a key figure, in relation to the bold Louvre museum robbery.

Numerous detectives have been searching for four perpetrators who used a vehicle equipped with a moving lift and cutting tools to breach a first-floor gallery at the prestigious institution on 19 October, escaping with jewelry valued at approximately €88M.

In a different significant robbery, robbers the previous month forced their way into the French capital's Natural History Museum, stealing gold samples estimated at exceeding $1M. A 24-year-old Chinese woman was apprehended in the current month in Barcelona, Spain in connection with the break-in, officials confirmed.

The sequence of heists has raised concerns in France regarding lax security at museums and various establishments housing valuable items.
