"Terrible" Conditions Poses Serious Threats
A official described the previous night's conditions as "terrible", with precipitation so heavy that up to 15cm (6in) of water gathered on the ground.
"These conditions was really terrible for the people. The heavy rains were so intense... And the gales were so forceful," noted the spokesperson.
There is grave concern that young ones residing in makeshift shelters in damp attire will contract hypothermia and additional illnesses.
Deaths and Widespread Loss
Health authorities have stated that one baby has succumbed from exposure and a minimum of 11 other people have lost their lives in roof cave-ins caused by the severe weather.
Other reports put a greater fatality count. Officials said that multiple structures had collapsed completely and scores had sustained partial collapse.
- Nearly 55,000 families harmed by the weather.
- More than 40 emergency shelters severely flooded.
- Many people required to find new shelter.
Assistance Operations Deemed Not Enough
Agencies have stepped up deliveries of tents, bedding and clothing after the halt in hostilities commenced, but they stress there is remains not enough aid reaching those in need.
"Agencies are working relentlessly to deliver that aid and to allocate it, but the magnitude of the needs is so immense that we are faced with a great number of people and minors who are really struggling nightly," cautioned one official.
Future Concerns and Truce Plans
The second phase of the truce includes proposals for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with post-war governance, the removal of personnel, and other terms.
Humanitarian organizations have highlighted the necessity for "expanded and ongoing aid to meet pressing and ongoing requirements."
The hostilities was sparked by an assault in late 2023. Subsequent military operations have resulted in a significant number of casualties in the territory, as per medical figures.
